HEART ATTACK AND ANGINA (CHEST PAIN)
Heart Attack, called a myocardial infarction, occurs when the blood flow to your heart is blocked. Without a good supply of blood, your heart muscles are deprived of oxygen and nutrients. As a result, the tissues die. Although quick treatment can limit the damage and improve your recovery, once part of the heart muscle dies, the damage is permanent.
The American Heart Association reports that someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds. The cardiologists at Advanced Heart and Vein Center have extensive experience helping patients prevent heart attacks and providing exceptional, life-saving treatment should one occur. When you develop chest pain or shortness of breath, schedule an appointment.
Angina, or chest pain, can come in many forms and have many underlying causes. Some of these causes aren’t of serious concern, while others may need immediate follow-up and treatment.
There are two types of angina:
Stable Angina: This kind of angina occurs when not enough oxygen is getting to your heart, such as with coronary artery disease. This may cause tightness or heaviness in the chest, and may cause pain to radiate to the jaw, neck, back, or arms.
Unstable Angina: This kind of angina occurs when not enough oxygen is getting to your heart, such as with coronary artery disease. This may cause tightness or heaviness in the chest, and may cause pain to radiate to the jaw, neck, back, or arms.
